5.1 Using a checklist to generate a topic

Using Checklists for Classroom Assignments

In this chapter we offer techniques students can use for classroom assignments. These techniques may also be used in the workplace. The first step is to use a checklist like the one we provide below to help you decide if your topic is specific and an appropriate choice for your assignment.

Questions to ask yourself

  • Am I interested in this topic?
  • Do I want to learn more about this topic?
  • Would my audience be interested in this topic?
  • Would the topic be an appropriate choice for this audience?
  • Is this topic specific enough for the length of the assignment?
  • Is the topic narrow enough for the length of the assignment?
  • How much do I know about the topic?
  • Will I need to do additional research?
