- Select a persuasive speech topical area, what you will attempt to persuade your audience of, and then use one of the two organizational patterns above (AIDA or Monroe’s Motivated Sequence) to create a draft outline. In the right margin, identify the component of the organizational strategy you are fulfilling (e.g., Attention, Need, and so forth). Also make notes about the types of visual support you might use and where you will use them.
- Emotion and logic are very important for persuasive messages. Consider the outline of your persuasive speech you have created and make notes about the points that you feel you need to support with researched evidence from credible sources. Also indicate where you can include some emotional devices such as stories or other situational devices to help the audience connect to the message. Exchange your draft with a peer in the class and offer feedback to each other about opportunities to improve each other’s message.
