Exercice 1: Je me présente

A. Complete the following sentences with information about yourself.

B. Introduce yourself to two of your classmates using the sentences above and listen as two of your classmates introduce themselves to you. Complete the following sentences according to the information they tell you.

Using the dialogue suggestions below, greet three students formally. Tell them your name, ask about theirs and ask them how they are doing. Say good-bye.

Exercice 5: Salutations familières

Using the informal dialogue suggestions below, greet two students that you haven’t talked to yet. Tell them your name, ask about theirs and ask them how they are doing.

Vous: Salut, je m’appelle _____. Et toi, comment tu t’appelles?

Camarade de classe: Moi, je m’appelle ____. Ça va? (Comment vas-tu?)

Vous: Ça va ( très bien / pas mal / mal). Et toi?

Camarade de classe: Ça va ( très bien / pas mal / mal), merci.

Exercice 6: Greetings for different parts of the day

Exercice 9: Tu es d’où?

Find students in your class who are from the same city as you. Ask your classmates where they are from and group yourselves according to city. Use only French!

Modèle: Tu es d’où? -> Je suis de Dallas. Et toi? -> Moi aussi! Je suis de Dallas.

Exercice 10: ‘Tu’ ou ‘Vous’?

Forms of address:

When speaking to another person in French for the first time, does one use ‘tu’ or the formal ‘vous’?

  • In general, ‘tu’ is used with friends, family, and children. Register of language: informal.
  • ‘Vous’ is used to express politeness, formality, and social distance. ‘Vous’ is the form of address used for all formal situations. Register of language: formal.

Exercice 12: L’alphabet

Arrange the letters of the alphabet from A to Z. First, click on the audio button on the top right-hand side of each card to play the letter, then drag and drop to arrange the letters in the correct order. To listen to the audio cues, the use of a mouse is required.

Hint: Blocks of the same colour will be found in the same part of the alphabet.

Exercice 13: Ça s’écrit comment?

Introduce yourself to a classmate who will ask you to spell your last name. Write down each other’s last names.

Check to see that your partner spelled your last name correctly and be prepared to spell your partner’s name to the class.

Exercice 17: Vrai ou faux?

Are the following sentences true (vrai) or false (faux)? In groups of three, one student will read the following statements, and the other two will react. Afterwards, your group will report your answers to the class.

Exercice 18: Rencontre

Play the video to meet a Francophone and Francophile. Listen to how they use informal and formal greetings to speak to each other. The video will pause every time there is a listening comprehension question. These questions are meant to challenge you and check your comprehension.
