Dictation

Dictée

Dictées are classic assessments of listening comprehension, spelling, and grammar skills in the form of a dictation. One person reads sentences that participants write down word-for-word. From 1985 to 2005, a spelling championship, “Dicos d’or,” was held in France. It was originally a national dictation, but in 1992, it became a challenge in which international participants could also participate. There were also the “Dictées d’Amériques,” held in Québec, from 1994 to 2009. In 1995, this event opened its doors to competitors from Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Senegal.

During the dictation below, certain words will be spelled out. When you hear “point”, this means “period”, so just add a “.” when you hear this. Please do not enter the word twice.

Audio script:

  1. Bonjour. Je me présente.
  2. Je m’appelle Louise.
  3. Je suis de Vancouver.
  4. J’étudie le français et les maths.
  5. Mon numéro de téléphone c’est le 6043235738
