FLOAT Case Studies

This section provides readers with an opportunity to see how the FLOAT Method is used to create data driven stories.  These projects are meant to help readers learn how to create re-create select visualizations while also generating new ideas and skills related to Tableau Public.

The beauty of data storytelling is that no matter what discipline or industry you belong to, it can be a useful method for communicating findings to an audience. The drawback when teaching data storytelling, however, is that there are several interrelated processes from collecting and organizing data to analyzing information and telling a story. While the content will differ from story-to-story, the steps remain virtually the same when completing a project.

The FLOAT Method encourages scholars to embrace multiple research methodologies from the humanities, social sciences, and data sciences in order to gain a much-needed appreciation of contemporary technologies as well as social and ethical dilemmas that these tools bring in their wake.

Furthermore, these Case Studies are an important way of illustrating theories related to different subject matters related to Black Studies. Readers are able to look underneath the hood and see the step-by-step processes needed to replicate a given data story.
